About the Houses and Buildings
The Old Aurora Colony Museum is comprised of original buildings constructed by the Aurora Colony between 1856 and 1883. These buildings house the furniture, tools, clothes, and household items either manufactured or purchased by the colonists.
The Aurora Colonists themselves were exceptional craftspeople manufacturing furniture, baskets, metal products, and all variety of textiles with a special emphasis on quilt making. The museum collection contains authentic examples of all of the tools and finished products that made the Aurora Colony such a successful communal society in nineteenth century Oregon.
